• I forgot my password. What do I do?

  If you are a DCS user and you have forgotten your password, you go see the operator with picture ID. The LCSRCF operations office is located in 235 CoRE on Busch Campus. The phone number is (732) 445-2443. The operator is on duty the following times:

     9:00 AM - Midnight	Monday - Friday
        Noon - 6:00 PM	Saturday
     2:00 PM - Midnight	Sunday
  

  Note that the CoRE building is locked after 6:00 PM on weekdays and on weekends, so if you come at that time you will need to call the operator from the door phone at 5-2443.

• How do I change my {finger info,password,shell}?

  To change your finger information, use the command chfn. It will prompt you with directions. If you get ridiculous errors from it, like "unknown user", you may need to run it on the YP master. To find out what machine is the YP master in your cluster, use the command ypwhich -m ypservers.

  To change your password, use the command passwd. It will prompt you with directions. Note that you need to know your existing password to change your password. If you have forgotten your password, you need to have the operator change it for you.

  To change your shell, use the command chsh. It will only allow you to choose certain programs. Usually these are listed in the file /etc/shells.

• I changed my .login but nothing's different. What's wrong?

  tcsh reads your .login when it starts. If you change the file on disk, it doesn't affect already running copies of tcsh. You can either use the shell builtin command source .login, or you can log out and log back in.
