OpenOffice

OpenOffice really saves the day.  When you first get a PC or laptop the first question you ask is "How do I write a letter", or "How do I make a spreadsheet?"  Then the other hand comes out from behind Microsoft's back and whacks you on the head.  You need Word and Excel to create those things and the Office Suite costs  MONEY...  here at freestuff we think money is a bad word...

What do you mean you don't have $599 for Microsoft?  That's what you'll hear.  Not to worry.  there is an open source project that offers apps with the same functionality of Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint and even adds things that Microsoft Office don't have, like a fully functional drawing app and a Mathematical function app (Wow..).  And, you guessed this part, it's all FREE.

Point that browser here...

Viola.

And now you can download the suite.

As you can see from my desktop above you will have six shiny new desktop icons to play with.  I am not going to go into each and everyone of these, suffice it to say that you have everything that the Microsoft Office provides you and more.  Think Writer = Word, Calc = Excel, Impress = Powerpoint and Base = Access and you are well on your way.  Math and Draw just put icing on this free office suite cake.
