Hey everyone. I have some exciting for you - Bianca Li, our secretary, recently went to the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference in Arizona. There, she met Oreoluwa Somolu, Executive Director of W.TEC, The Women's Technology Empowerment Centre, an organization based in Nigeria that encourages Nigerian girls and women to learn how to use technology to empower themselves socially and economically. One event they hold is an annual Girls Technology Camp in the month of August. WCS has decided to partner with W.TEC to raise money for 2 volunteers to travel to Nigeria and assist in this camp. We have several events planned for the rest of this semester and for next semester to raise money, so please support our cause! Visit the events page for more on that (coming up soon: we are having a bake sale at the Busch Student Center!) Also, if you would like more info on W.TEC, the Technology Camp, or if you are interested in traveling to Nigeria for this project and being a volunteer, visit the page on W.TEC on the right.

Some more information about the Morningstar Programming Contest:
What's involved: You will be given a programming task which will require processing of a sample financial data set. We crafted the problem so it touches several areas that Morningstar developers typically address: assessing data quality, implementing financial calculations, and drawing conclusions based on analysis. There will be no specific programming language requirements; you can use the development environment with which you are most familiar.
Remember: You must sign up! To sign up: Please send your name, year in school, and resume to mdpresumes@morningstar.com by Friday, September 25. Space is limited, so contestants will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis. This competition is limited to undergraduate and masters students with no full-time work experience.

Hello, I hope everyone had a good first week of school and are all getting back into the groove of classes! WCS has two exciting events to offer our members. First, PricewaterhouseCoopers is hosting an event where you will get a chance to meet representatives from their company and learn a bit about how to network effectively. We will be having a General Interest Meeting at this time as well for our new members. Also, Morningstar Inc. will be holding a programming competition for students. If you're a winner or runner-up, you'll take away $1000 or $500 respectively. Check the events page for more info!

Hi everyone! At WCS, we're excited to announce something new we are starting up this year for new CS students called the CS Mentoring Program. If you are a student interested in pursuing computer science and taking the introductory course CS111, we can partner you up with a fellow CS uppergraduate for questions or advice on CS, our dept. here at Rutgers, as well as general Rutgers knowhow. If you are an uppergraduate looking to guide some students through their first forays into computer science, then please sign up for this program! More information on our CS Mentoring Program page.
