W.TEC and the Girls Technology Camp

The money we raised last year was able to pay for two girls to attend the Girls Technology Camp in Nigeria for free! Help us as we aim to do even more this year!

The Girls Technology Camp just took place in August. This is the flier from the event. As you can see, the fee for a girl to attend is 50,000 N, which is about $330. Because of our and other groups' fundraising, scholarships were available for these girls. More pictures from the 2010 camp here and the 2011 camp here.

W.TEC (Women's Technology Empowerment Centre) is a Nigerian non-governmental organization working to encourage Nigerian girls and women to learn how to use technology as a means of empowering themselves socially and economically. Its programmes will include technology literacy workshops, skill-building projects, and research examining pivotal issues related to African women’s use of technology.

W.TEC hosts annually the Girls Technology Camp. The camp is designed to encourage young women to choose a career path in information and communication technology (ICT) or to develop more interest in using and/or managing ICTs (see http://flickr.com/photos/wtec/ for camp pictures).

WCS will be holding fundraising events throughout the year in order to raise money for this cause.

If you are interested in becoming an volunteer and participating in this mission, or if you would like to donate, please email any one of us on the WCS board.
