Where can I find out more about Young Judaea Year Course?

The U.S. number for YJ Israel Programs is 1 800/725-0612 (or, in the City, it's 1 212/303-4594). You can also try the official YJ web site by clicking here.

What is Kinley, and where can I find it?

Kinley is a Coca-Cola beverage only sold in Isarel. They make orange and lemon Kinley, and you can buy it in just about any grocery store or restaurant there.

While it has been exceedingly difficult to find Kinley here in the United States, you may be able to sample some at the Coca-Cola Headquarters in Atlanta, GA, or in the World of Coca-Cola Pavillion in Epcot Center, Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.

Why doesn't Strudel serve strudel?

The first day we went to Strudel, Jonathan actually went in and tried ordering strudel, which they don't even have. Believe it or not, "strudel" is the Hebrew word for "@", which appears on the sign outside the cafe. Perhaps they could have apple strudel.

What is a "gardening sandwich", and how can I make one?

A gardening sandwich is what we used to eat during breaks while working in the gardens department in Karmiel. There was a guy named Moishe there (the only one, to the best of my knowledge, that spoke English, which was how he got stuck with us), and he made the best hummus ever.

A gardening sandwich is a sandwich consisting primarily of the following:
Freshly cut vegetables, specificly: tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers
Bread, particularly rye
Hummus and/or mayonaise
Salt
Olive oil (presumably Israeli)
Lemon juice

Where is Josh Samet in the movie Tin Cup?

Josh Samet's pivital role in Tin Cup occurs towards the end of the movie, when Josh appears in the stands.

Why didn't Miriam go on tiyul?

Because they don't have Diet Coke machines in the desert.

Was Eli Podell on Bet?

eli.jpgNo, but we played with him anyway. Eli's family made aliyah and by some coincidence (or miracle, for Eli) ended up in the same absorption center that Bet was living in. The fact that Eli's brother Joe was on Year Course helped him a lot because that's mostly how we got to know him in the first place.

Was Shira's birthday party really forbidden?

Yes. Yes it was.

What happened to the Profiles page? How can I get a profile page? What exactly is the system used to determine beauty in ordering people on the Profiles page?

The truth of the matter is that the Profiles page was removed for Bet Is Better 2000 because in the three years the web site had been up we were still stuck on 5 profiles. The Profiles page may become as we intended it, having a great profile for everyone in Bet, but for now it has a list of what we think everyone is currently doing. This is actually the most accurate page on this web site as of right now.

If you want the Profiles page returned to the way it was, you can email us about it at profiles@ian-ian.com.

As for the order of the profiles, we like to employ a system known as the "Shira Fischer" system. This system primarily involves a thorough examination of the person's personal life, followed by a rigorous interrigation of their close friends and family, and is concluded by looking at the letters in their last name and placing them in alphabetical order. This is very similar to the system used in putting people's names in order on the credits page.

Why isn't this web page ever finished?

Good question. There are three main reasons that we haven't gotten around to finishing this web site. They are:
a) We have classes (well, Ian does, anyway).
b) We have other web sites to attend to. For a little distraction, try Ian's Curriously Strong Home Page.
c) The work done on Bet Is Better reflects how much we get paid to do the web site. More accurately, it reflects the amount of pictures and other input we receive from people.

What happened to the NaavaStock '98 section?

That section has been removed at the request of Miss Naava Yoeli due to pending litigation regarding use of the word "wello".

The section may be reinstated if we ever get some pictures of NaavaStock to put on the web.

What was The Society to Rescue Jason Comrov, and what happened to it?

The Society to Rescue Jason Comrov was a web chain started in 1998 to try to bring Jason "Dot" Comrov and others like him back from Israel (even though Jason wasn't in Bet). This was done primarily by sticking pictures of Jason on our web sites, as opposed to, for example writing letters to our congressmen.

Since the efforts of the SRJC were successful, the web chain has since been disbanded.

What is the significance of the number 7482?

The phone number of the line in the moadon madrichim in Beit Riklis is 02 581-7482 (or at least it was when we were there). We picked the last four digits of this number for the original Bet Is Better page on Geocities because it was the only way anyone would ever remember the address.

How did this web site get started? Whose idea was it to have a web page? Who came up with the term "Bet Is Better"?

This information is now located on the history page.
